‘Stolen UK, US banks’ credit card info found on Naira Marley’s laptop’ By Unini Chioma - October 23, 2019

card info found on Naira Marley’s laptop’

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday heard that stolen credit card information issued by European, American and Latin American banks were retrieved from a laptop allegedly belonging to musician, Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley.

An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) forensics expert, Mr Nuru Buhari told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that some of the credit card information belonged to four persons in the United Kingdom (UK) including one Nicole Louise.

Buhari testified as the EFCC’s first prosecution witness in Marley’s alleged card fraud trial which began on Tuesday.

The witness, who was led in evidence by EFCC counsel Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, alleged that apart from the stolen information, the website visit history recovered from the device showed that the top five most visited sites dealt with buying and selling of stolen credit card information.

Buhari said: “During analysis, the cache file and history file revealed that the most frequently visited sites by the user of the computer includes arder007.org, Zuni.sa, nationwidecheckbalance.co.uk, ferunshop.net AMD cocoa.co.uk.”

“Analysis of the websites revealed that web 1 is where stolen card information is sold to intending fraudsters, web 2 is for stolen credit cards specifically for the UK, web 3 is an online website designed for UK card holders to check their balance wherever they are around the world, web 4 is a dark web meaning an underground tunnel in the internet where stolen credit card information are sold and traded, web 5 is an online shopping mall where members are given discounts for shopping from certain shops.”

He said stolen credit card information with special status that allows transaction up-to $12,000 without a pin or physical card was found in a file named select BIN 101.txt and txt.

The witness added:
“For the note file, two major files were discovered named .txt which contained about four credit card information belonging to four different personalities in the UK including one Nicole Louise. ”

“The second file is named selected BIN101. txt containing Bank Identification Number of European, American and Latin American banks.

“When we ran the BIN code search for the first six digits of the cards, it revealed they are Visa cards issued by Barclay’s bank, Sandander UK plc.”

Buhari testified that an analysis allowed his team to identify “certain banks in the US, Europe and Asia with certain peculiarities, these are banks that they issue credit cards without pins based on the high level of trust, they allow a transaction of up to $12,000 in a swipe on pos.

“Cards issued by those banks are card not required. All you need to execute a transaction is the card number and the CVV number. ”

According to him, suspicious apps that are mostly used by people with shady deals on the internet were found on the laptop.
He said:
“We analysed installed apps on the laptop and we found two apps that enables the owner of the computer to decide the server of a bank as to his identity and location, IP VANISH and TOR browser.

“The TOR browser is sometimes called the onion.
Most of the criminals cover their tracks with various layers just like an onion using this app to make it near impossible for a tracker to track their location.

“The IP VANISH is a virtual private network (VPN) which provides that the actual computer and location of usage cannot be identified. It also gives the user the ability to change their location.”

The court heard further that an analysis of the administrator account on the laptop revealed that the admin is one Naira Marley and the account was connected to his iCloud account.

During the hearing, Oyedepo tendered the request for the analysis of the Apple Mac book Pro laptop, an iPhone allegedly confiscated from the defendant and the forensic laboratory report prepared by Mr Buhari.

Justice Oweibo adjourned till Friday for cross examination of the witness.
Fashola, popular for his “Am I a Yahoo Boy” and “Soapy” tracks, is being prosecuted by the EFCC on an 11-count charge of conspiracy, possession of counterfeit cards and fraud.

His co-defendant is one Yad Isril, said to still be at large.

The defendant was arraigned on May 20, 2019, but pleaded not guilty.
He secured N2 million bail with two sureties in the like sum.

According to the charge, the defendant committed the offences on different dates including November 26, 2018, December 11, 2018, and May 10,

Fashola and his accomplices allegedly conspired to use different Access Bank ATM Cards to defraud their victims.

They allegedly used Access Card number 5264711020433662 issued to other persons, in a bid to obtain fraudulent financial gains.

Fashola was said to have possessed these counterfeit credit cards, belonging to different cardholders, with intent to defraud, and which also constituted theft.

Naira Marley: I was not part of case investigation – EFCC witness

By Unini Chioma - October 24, 2019

The first witness called by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the trial of popular music act, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley,
has denied being involved in the investigation of the matter.

Nuhu Buhari, the head of the forensic department, EFCC, Lagos zonal office, said this during cross-examination by the defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo, on Thursday.
The EFCC arraigned Naira Marley on an 11-count charge of conspiracy, possession of counterfeit cards and fraud.

Mr Buhari, while being cross-examined before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos, said he only did a forensic analysis of devices presented to him.

“Apart from the digital forensic examination, I did not play any role during the investigation of this case. ”

He also agreed to the statement of Mr Ojo that he was not specifically asked to investigate the ownership of the device but he did so because it was a part of the standard procedure for analysis.

“I was never instructed to investigate the ownership of the device but my standard is that I confirm the ownership of the device.”
Mr Ojo then argued that Mr Buhari had no right to tell the court that the owner of the device is Azeez Fashola.

But Mr Buhari disagreed, maintaining that he can.

Mr Ojo then asked the witness if the name Azeez Fashola appeared anywhere in his report marked exhibit E. Mr Buhari answered “No.”

Mr Ojo also asked if the witness would confirm as a communication technology expert that a computer device can be set up with particulars as desired by the purchaser.

Mr Buhari confirmed this and the counsel went ahead to suggest that anybody could have set up their device, using the name Naira Marley, and ask question
Mr Buhari promptly answered with “of course.”

Questioning the choice of words used in filling the report, Mr Ojo asked the witness to define what it means in his kind of profession to use certain words, including ‘obvious’ and ‘appears’. In response,
Mr Buhari explained that ” appears doesn’t connote certainty.
Appearance in tech is not a certainty. Something can appear this way but it’s not exactly like that.”
Following up, Mr Ojo asked the witness to read page 6, line 10 of his forensic report marked as exhibit E. It reads:
“Finally, based on the analysis of the device, it appears that the user purchased credit card information from the sites analysed and used them for online shopping.”
The cross-examination was interrupted by an argument amongst lawyers over sitting space in court which led to the adjournment of the matter at the instance of the court to December 11 and 12 for the continuation of cross-examination of the prosecution witness.

During the examination in chief at the last hearing,
Mr Buhari had informed the court that stolen credit cards information were found on a laptop alleged to belong to Mr Fashola.

He also told the court that some of the card information was cards which allowed cardless transactions without requiring a pin for transactions up to $12,000 with only the card number and the CVV.

He had also informed the court that the five most visited sites were sites where stolen credit card information could be sold and bought.

Naira Marley is being prosecuted by the EFCC on an 11-count charge of conspiracy, possession of counterfeit cards and fraud.
His co-defendant is one Yad Isril, said to still be at large.

He was arraigned on May 20 and pleaded not guilty to all the counts.
He was also granted bail of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

According to the charge, the defendant committed the offences on different dates, November 26, 2018, December 11, 2018, and May 10.

The defendants allegedly conspired to use different Access Bank ATM cards to defraud their victims.

They allegedly used Access Card number 5264711020433662 issued to other persons, in a bid to obtain fraudulent financial gains.

Dremo of DMW
Nigerian rapper Dremo (Aboriomoh Femi Raymond)
Full name is Aboriomoh Femi Raymond; Age: 25; Nigerian rapper from Ibadan, Oyo state (born in Edo state).  Genres: Afro pop; Afrobeat fused with hip-hop.  Latest project is Codename, Vol. 1 (released July 2018).  Dremo is signed to the DMW (Davido Music Worldwide) record label.
Other interestingI facts:  Dremo signed with the DMW label on April 1, 2016, just two days after having been introduced to the label’s owner Davido (superstar Nigerian singer, producer and entrepreneur David Adedeji Adeleke).  One of the most successful singers in Nigeria, Davido was so impressed with Dremo’s work, he had to have him on his label immediately.  Dremo, who initially thought Davido’s contract offer was an April Fool’s joke, was the first rapper signed to the DMW label.
In a 2017 interview with lifestyle.thecable.ng, Dremo recalled “being a nobody” before he received the call from Davido, a notion that is somewhat reinforced by the fact that he still has no Wikipedia page devoted to him as of this writing.
But that likely has more to do with the failed attempts by people to create one on his behalf and alleged reports of unverifiable information being submitted (not that this has ever stopped others from having their own Wiki page).
Dremo’s Codename Vol. 1 EP was released last July
Still, Dremo is one of the dopest new rappers on the Naija hip-hop scene (just listen to his rapid-fire delivery on the 2018 track “Faya” from his Codename EP for proof).  His talents have already translated into a large following.  He’s won several awards including the Nigerian Teen Choice Award for Choice New Hip Hop Act 2016 and, in 2017, the City People Music Award for Rookie of the Year.  As of this typing, he has 91,117 monthly Spotify listeners and 177,000 followers on Twitter.
Dremo’s “Ojere”
Dremo, who sometimes uses a singing style to go along with his rapping, has several singles to his name, as well as various featured credits. But his first official project, the EP Codename, Vol. 1, was released July 20, 2018.  You can check it out immediately below.
Best tracks on Codename, Vol. 1: “Bigger Meat,” “Faya.”

Nasty C
South African rapper Nasty C (Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo)
Full Name: Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo (also known as Coolest Kid in Africa); Age 22; South African rapper from Soweto, Gauteng.  Genres: trap, hip-hop.  Latest project is Strings and Bling (released July 2018).  Since February 2018, Nasty C has recorded for the Universal Music Group – SA.
Other interesting facts:  Nasty C is very highly regarded among South African rappers, with the young star having already received accolades for “Best Freshman” at the 2015 South African Hip-Hop Awards, as well as being named one of the best rappers in his country and on the African continent in 2018 by TINA magazine.
Like most up-and-coming rappers, Nasty C put out mix-tapes and singles before finally releasing an EP (Price City) and later an album (Bad Hair) of his own.  For Bad Hair, the rapper launched a promotional campaign where he had fans send head-and-shoulder pictures of their “bad hair” to a special email account to raise awareness of the upcoming debut album release.  The gimmick paid off as the album was among the most streamed  on the site Audiomack upon its release.
A key single from Bad Hair, the No. 1 “Hell Naw,” was reportedly written, recorded and released within 24 hours.  The song (official video below) is dope!
“Hell Naw” video by Nasty C
Nasty C has also worked internationally both within his continent and abroad, including with American artists 6lack, French Montana and A$AP Ferg.  The latter is featured on his Strings and Bling album, which has been heralded by critics as one of the best rap albums of 2018 in SA.
Strings and Bling was released July 6, 2018, and topped the South African charts at No. 1 upon its release.  One listen to it (immediately below) and you’ll see why Nasty C is fast on the come-up and easily one of the best African hip-hop artists today!
The whole album is ðŸ”¥ðŸ”¥ðŸ”¥.  But the best tracks on S&B: “Blisters,” “Do U Digg,” “Legendary,” “U Played Yourself,” “SMA (Send Me Away)” featuring Rowlene, and “King” featuring A$AP Ferg.
